LO1: Marketing and distribution methods
Marketing: promotion and advertisement of a product to an audience, this is important because if there a product isn't marketed then the audience wont be aware of the product. examples of this can be billboard/poster, TV adverts, social media.
There are two different types of marketing; above the line (targeting a mass audience), below the line (target an individual). we will not charge for our magazine because we target a niche audience for a local people, we will use below the line marketing methods as we target a niche audience.
Marketing method would use;
-social media- my audience is digital native so it can reach my target audience, cheap/easy. technological convergence (Jenkins 2008)
Distribution: how a product reaches its audience. Ways my magazine could be distributed;
- making my magazine available online (E-zine)
- Local establishments (bus stations/train stations)
- Music/record shops
- gig venues
- Local businesses (places which pay for advertisement spacing)
Media Pack: a pack put together by a publication to attract advertisement (pays for running cost), this creates a revenue stream.
included in a media pack;
-Audience profile- Demographics (this is to ensure the advertisement have the same demographic as the magazine)
-Information about the magazine
My media pack;
-audience profile and imaginary entity
-flat plans
-masthead/logos
-
advertising rates: How much an advertising company is charged to be advertised
6 reasons for the advertising rates for their magazine;
-Size of the advert
-position of advert (front/back/middle)
-how many magazines will be published/readership (circulation)
-frequency (weekly/bi-weekly/monthly)
-type/quality of paper
-advertisement design
